Hello there! I'm Javier Maldonado, but in the world of Advertising I'm also know as Antonio (you can ask me about that when we meet, haha).
I haven't always been a 'creative' person. Actually, my first job was cooking hamburgers for McDonald's with a minimum wage and a lot of burnt oil smell stuck in my uniform. Yummy!
I was born in the cold city of Loja, Ecuador, but I live and work in the hot, steamy and incredibly sexy Guayaquil.
Ever since I was little, I knew that Communications were my thing, but initially I didn't study Advertising. Instead, I chose Journalism, my first great passion. Although, deep inside, I always had a crush on the world of ads.
So, I left the McKitchen and started to work for newspapers and magazines.
I traveled a lot, writing news and interviewing many interesting and not-so-interesting people. And just before graduating from college my life changed: I had to enroll in a workshop in order to complete my career credits and the only thing available was a Wedding Planning workshop. And well... I failed it. But fortunately, the next day a Student Advertising Festival (technically, a workshop) became available... and boom: I won 1 gold award.
Since then, my world has been totally different. I traveled to Argentina to study Copywriting and when I came back I was hired by a big ad agency. I began to navigate in this really crazy and intense world of Advertising, learning and dreaming of doing bigger and better things every day.
I love soccer. I love pasta. I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Daft Punk. Above all, I love music. I mean, I really love music. I can play almost any instrument and I have a band that actually is not that bad.
(Actually, you can be the judge of that. Hint: go to the B-Sides section).
In fact, I forgot to tell you that I have a superpower and (guess what?) it is music related. The thing is I can turn any song -any song- into a cumbia song, using only my hands. (I can also show you that, when we meet).
So, anyway… welcome to my Greatest Hits. Have a look! (Or a listen)
And if you like my work, don’t hesitate to contact me anytime. And when I say anytime, I mean anytime but Saturday morning or Friday night. Because, you know… life.
